Our youth program consists of both kids and teens' classes that will get your little ones movin' and groovin'! The youth program focuses on rhythm, coordination, motor skills, listening skills, discipline, basic dance techniques and fundamentals. Students will not only build a vocabulary of dance moves, but will learn the history of the various dances, the art of the music and experience the richness of the culture. At The Get Down, our students will build self-esteem, confidence and learn to master their dance moves all while gaining a community of friends and family. Our goal is to create a non-judgmental and welcoming environment where all students appreciate and respect each other.
All youth classes will follow the same format and structure:
- 5-7 minute warm up
- high energy teacher-led dance movement to get the heart rate up
- choreography - choreography will be built upon week to week
- cool down
At the end of the session, students will be able to showcase what they have learned by performing on-stage! There may be other opportunities to perform at local community centers, events and festivals.
** Please note - while class is in session, we ask that parents/guardians do not sit in on the class and watch. Based on past experience, students tend to either get distracted or shy away from dancing when being watched. Parents will be invited on certain dates to observe the class.
